Chapter 2- My sister is popular
Nydia looked at the different selection of tea in the menu. The shop attendant was waiting for her order on the counter while her other companions were busily preparing the other customers’ order.
“I’ll have milk tea with pudding please.”
“I’m sorry but pudding is now sold out,” The attendant replied automatically like she had said this a lot time of times already. “Would you like to try the pearls?”
“We also have different kinds of hot tea such as green tea and rose tea. If you would-”
“-also like, we have black tea.” She finished with a smile in her face. She doesn’t seem to mind that her customer had a confused expression.
“Well then, uhmmm… I’ll take the errrr…” Nydia didn’t know what to do anymore.
Ralia-neesan said to buy plain milk tea because Ayna-nee doesn’t like pearls. But she didn’t say anything about jelly etc. Oh no! The people at the back of the line look impatient. I should hurry. But if I buy this and Ayna-nee doesn’t like it, Ralia-nee will get mad at me for wasting money. Not to mention she will force me to drink it. Maybe I should just buy…
Nydia could feel herself getting more and more confused and the attendant who had smile plastered on her face waiting for her order was not helping either.
“Just… plain milk tea… will do.”, Murmured by someone at her side.
“Ayna-nee!” Nydia gasped in surprise. She had no idea when her sister started standing beside her. Ayna just shrugged her shoulders and walked away from the line.
Nydia panicked as she paid for the drink and at the same time tried not to lose sight of her older sister. When she finally got the drinks she ran after her sister.
“W-wait! Ayna-nee!” She shouted while trying to walk as fast as she could without spilling the drinks. “Wait!”
Ayna couldn’t hear her or more specifically chose not to listen to her. Nydia wanted to shout “You should at least have the decency to carry your own drink! It’s hard to carry all three of them without spilling any of them!” but she didn’t have the courage to say it. She was just as scared of angering Ayna as Ralia if not more; the suffering of the youngest in the family.
Ayna kept glancing at her phone while looking around. By the time Nydia caught up to her she already entered a cafe. When she went inside she saw her older sister buying a slice of cake.
Ayna took a picture of the cake before it was put in a box. They left the shop and went to the direction were Ralia was waiting.
“It’s amazing you knew there was a cafe here nee-san.” Nydia said, already in a better mood. She caught up with her sister without spilling a single drop. Her luck must be improving.
“Hmmm… Saw it on the net.” Ayna replied in a flat tone. She was uploading the picture of the cake she took earlier. In a few moments a meowing sounded from Nydia’s phone. She carefully took out her phone while making sure the drinks wouldn’t spill. A picture of a cake with a caption: Kyaaa~ （*´▽｀*）Cto’s chocolate mousse cake. I’m so happy~ #bliss #sweettooth #chocolate4ever
Nydia glanced at her older sister’s face, there was no hint of happiness from her face at all. She had the same flat expression. Her phone kept meowing, comments and likes flooded in.
Woot! It’s Ay-chan! (^_^)/~
Waaah… I’m so jealous~
Try the Cto’s blueberry cheesecake next Ay-chan.
You didn’t upload anything for the past 2 days. Did something happen?
Tell us about its taste later, okay? ( °٢° )
Already over a thirty comments were uploaded in just a matter of seconds. As Nydia’s phone meowed like a broken record, only one thought came to her mind. These people are really amazing. It’s amazing they have nothing better to do. It’s a cake you know. A cake you could find in every cafe that every city has. You make it sound like it’s a rare treasure or something.
But Nydia understood what the hype was all about even if she complained in her heart how absurd it was. It was like commercials on TV where famous actors and actresses endorsed shampoos, soaps and deodorants. No matter how ordinary the object would be, these things’ value would double in the hands of someone famous.
Her sister who spends all her time on the internet was quite well-known in the online community. No, that was understatement. Her sister was crazy popular.
Her online persona was Ay-chan, a mysterious blogger that has never shown her face or announced any personal information. She was connected to different communities like gaming, rping, art, video and many others. Every popular forum had the username Ay-chan. She had almost the same number of subscribers as a certain Swedish youtuber.
The comments kept pouring in and the conversation was lighthearted and fun. Nydia wanted to comment but refrain herself.
“I don’t mind you following me but don’t ever comment. If you break this rule even once…” Ayna said the threat in the same flat tone she always used. Her face as expressionless and she didn’t say what the consequence would be. But the hands that were holding a stuff bunny had its neck wringed tightly. For the sake of her life, Nydia will never ever comment. Ever.
Nydia put her phone back into her bag and concentrated on carrying the drinks. She could already see her sister, Ralia, at the distance. She looked at her other sister beside of her. She was replying at a comment. Because she was taller than Ayna she accidentally read what she was typing.
I’m going to eat it later. I don’t care if I get fat. Chocolate is justice! （●＾o＾●）
Nydia let out a small laugh. I bet Ayna-nee is typing that with the same dead-pan expression on her face. Ayna suddenly turned her head and made eye contact with Nydia.
Crap! Crap! Crap! Rule no. 18. I broke rule no. 18!
“Why were you looking at my cellphone?” Ayna asked. Nydia felt cold sweat on her back.
“Why do you need to look at my phone’s screen?” She said in a tightly controlled voice, her eyes narrowing. “Will you gain something? Will your life improve now that you looked at it? Did you win a lot of money? Did you finally reach enlightenment? Huh? Huh?”
Nydia knew from experience that she shouldn’t reply when her sister Ayna loses her temper. But that didn’t mean she had learned her lesson. She was only in highschool, a kid.
“N-no Ayna-nee it was-“
“What? Did you decide to just apologize after deliberately reading what’s on the screen? Do you think saying sorry is enough?” she continued as she her volume of her voice slowly increasing with every word she said.
“It was an accident Ayna-nee. I didn’t mean to look.” Nydia hurriedly replied. A lot of people were beginning to gather around them, curious.
“SHUT UP!” Ayna screamed as she kicked a trash bin. The two feet plastic container rolled a few meters spilling its content on the floor. It was good think it was the container for soft drink cans or it would have made quite a mess.
Nydia shut her mouth and tried to make herself smaller. The crowd took a few steps back, afraid they will get hit by something.
Eeek! Ralia-neesan help! Ayna-nee is having a tantrum again!
